The Good LIfe

Walking with my new mom is the best thing ever.
Second that to a nap. I don't need a fancy bed.
Catching some rays feels pretty good too. Thanks IBR for giving me this wonderful second chance at happiness.

Dixie's Hunt Test

Wheeee! I got to go sniff and hunt birds! My foster mom took me and Nora to have a Test. We went on a long car ride, and when we got there, we got to meet a nice man who let us smell birds. I liked it, and the man said I had "potential". He said that meant I liked the birds, and I wasn't "gun shy". I don't know what that means, but I wasn't scared when he made a big noise, and he let me keep smelling the birds. I did stop and point when I found one, and he and my foster mommy said that was good. I'm not sure if I passed my test, but I had a good time.

Here I am getting ready for my test.

Ok, what do I do now?

This smells good

OHHHH! This smells better!

YES!! That's a BIRD in there!

I'm still watching it.
I think what I'm doing is called "pointing".

I couldn't find it after it flew away

I got to smell it after it held still.

Kent said that it would help me learn more about hunting to play with it - just a little!

Here I am resting on the couch in the hunt club after I had my test.

A New Start for Dixie in Minnesota

Dixie arrived at her new foster home in Minnesota on Saturday, December 27, 2008. Dixie is trying to figure out what is happening in her life. She has been in several homes, and really doesn't know why.

Dixie - a gorgeous orange and white English Setter

Dixie is a charming girl that desperately wants to be loved. Well, a little love, and a little hunting time in the yard would be perfect!

This is my new yard.

Hmmmm. What's this nice smell?

THAT is the neighbor's yard. I see birds over there!

In the video below, you can see me on my first day here.
See if there is some part of my body that tells you how I feel.

Yes, it's my tail!

I have a new foster sister that looks like me.
I'm the one on the left.

Foster mom was fooled by us for a while.
But somehow she can tell us apart now.

The foster sister that looks like me showed me these great sticks to chew on.

And my tail? Still going!

It was kind of cold out, so we all went inside to warm up.

And take a nap.

Ahhh. This is a little more comfortable.
My other foster sister is letting me share her couch.

But WAIT!!! I want to go back out and play some more.
There's only so much sleeping a girl can do!

Please come see me again soon.
I'll be watching for you!

Update from my foster mom

Miss Dixie has been in temporary foster care here in Northern Illinois for 5 days and is a very loving dog. Dixie is so gentle with the kids, rolls over on her belly to be pet when friends come over, then snuggles on the couch with our friends when they visit. I have not heard her bark since she arrived 5 days ago. She is crate trained and we haven't had any accidents in the house. She does great in her crate, we ask her to get in her bed and she walks right in without a peep all night. She is playful and can entertain herself all day with many naps in between. I am not sure how she is with cats since we don't have any but she gets along great with my pointer after they worked out an issue when they first met. Dixie gets a little up close and personal with my pointer, with her nosey nose. She loves to play steal the toys from Ella my pointer and then hoard them all. She fit in really well with our family within a few days. I can't imagine why her adopter treated her so badly, but she is no worse for the wear. What a great dog and is ready to move into your home for the new year. You would be lucky to have her, she is welcome here anytime, what a great house guest.

Tennis Balls Are Great Fun

And when the squeak it's even better!
